Village of an unreached people group!

We are currently residing in Jos, a city located in the center of Nigeria situated on a plateau 3,000-plus feet above sea level. Our primary focus during this season of ministry is to explore the rural (bush) areas in order to locate a site upon which establish a future mission station. Come and join us to be a part of this endeavor!

Dayspring Mission has a need for laborers to serve alongside of us in the calling of God to reach the lost. Why Nigeria? First, because over 40% of the population are Muslims, and yet the doors remain open for missionaries to be here at this time. Secondly, Nigeria has the largest population of any country in Africa. This means that one out of every five Africans is a Nigerian. Thirdly, there are over 134 inadequately-reached people groups and 34 known unreached peoples. And lastly, nearly half of all Nigerians are under the age of 15. Population growth, therefore, is rapidly on the increase.

We are in a ground breaking stage of ministry. It is our desire to locate our ministry in a remote setting in order to serve those who still live in village areas. Much modern mission work is focused on reaching those who live in urban areas. However, close to 50% of Nigerians still reside in rural conditions. It is our desire to live among these precious people in an incarnational-ministry lifestyle.

Our hope is to create a discipleship/vocational school for the young men (13 yr. +) who are rural-dwellers, and to establish a village-to-village evangelism/pastoral circuit, visiting on a regular basis the local primary schools and individuals' homes for Bible study. (Feel free to peruse some of our old updates from Belize to help you visualize what this type of ministry would look like).

Ministry Positions Available:

We currently have positions available for missionary interns & associates (young men), and one position for a husband and wife associate team. Interns and associates would assist with children’s Bible studies, village-to-village outreach, and the building of a new mission station, as well as with daily chores and upkeep. Included in this is the opportunity for an individual to teach a vocational/high school class (no degree required), lead a Bible study, and/or help plan and organize outreach work, should any of these be areas of special interest or gifting. Our internship program is for individuals interested in serving from three months up to one year. The associate program is for those willing to commit for longer than one year.

Who is this for?

If you are a senior in high school up to 30 years of age, these positions are available to you. The associate and intern programs are for anyone who is interested in learning more about missions and ministry through hands-on experience. (We apologize, but at this time we can only take male interns or associates, or a husband and wife team, as there are no women on the mission station.)

Length of service:

The associate position is a one to two year commitment. If you are interested in serving, but for a shorter length of time, the internship opportunity runs from three months up to one year.

Cost:

Associates and interns serve in a voluntary capacity. The first 12 weeks on the field are US $100 a week (per person), and each additional week is US $65 ($3,800 per year). The associate or intern is only required to have the first twelve weeks’ expenses raised upon arrival to the field. He will be expected to cover travel costs to and from Nigeria (app. $1,300 to $1,700 roundtrip depending on where one is flying from. Abuja is the nearest airport to our current location). We would suggest that the intern or associate plan on having $20 to $30 dollars personal spending money per week. However, this is not mandatory. This would cover your personal expenses such as phone calls (about $10 for 30 min. to the US), internet usage ($3 per hour), souvenirs, and meals eaten apart from community mission meals and its outreach work. These funds can be routed through the mission. The required weekly costs go towards covering food, travel expenses within the country, housing, and outreach expenses. Estimated cost including personal spending money, flight, and mission expenses: only $7,060 per year!

How to join the work:

Simply request and fill out an application for “Volunteer Service” and return it to the mission via e-mail for prayer and review.  If you have questions, or for more information, please feel free to e-mail: patrick@dayspringmission.com or you can call Patrick @ 011-234-807-378-8297. Please keep in mind the time difference.  We also have a video uploaded of our previous work in Belize which can be viewed to see some of our ministry for yourself.  May the Lord lead you in the making of this decision!

Mission Leaders:

Pastor Patrick Evans has been involved in full time mission work since 1995 having served in Brazil, South America (in a short-term capacity), Belize, Central America (2000 to 2007), and Nigeria, West Africa (1996 to 1999, and 2007 to the present day). Pastor Jeff Shelnutt started his full-time mission service in 1999, first in Nigeria, and then working in Belize till 2007. Having now returned to Nigeria, Patrick and Jeff both hope to put their combined knowledge of outreach and ministry to use in the often lesser-reached areas of Nigeria. You can learn more about Patrick and Jeff in the "Mission Staff" section of this website.
